Nice Girls Don't Ride
Author: Roni Loren
Publisher: Penguin Intermix
Release Date: 21 April 2015
Natalie Bourne thinks she has the perfect night planned for her twenty-first birthday. But when her car breaks down and her boyfriend bails on her, she’s left stranded in an auto shop dealing with a way too cocky, way too hot mechanic, who seems to be intent on pushing every button she has.
Monroe Hawkins knows he shouldn’t be messing with a girl from the uppity private college. Especially when he can tell she sees him as the help. But he’s having trouble resisting the redhead with the smart mouth and the killer legs. So when Natalie’s night goes from bad to worse, there’s no way he’s letting her spend her birthday alone. He makes her a deal—he’ll take her home but not until the sun comes up.
Ten hours, one motorcycle, and the city of Austin at their fingertips…things are about to take a major detour. And soon, there may be no U-turn in sight.
Natalie Bourne is all dressed up to celebrate her 21st birthday with her boyfriend when her car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. The aforementioned boyfriend is impossible to reach, the tow truck is taking its sweet time arriving and the heat is starting to cook the nearby roadkill. Not a great way to celebrate. A different tow truck pulls up and her knight in shining armour turns out to be sexy, bad boy looking Monroe Hawkins who tows her truck to his brother's shop.
Now Natalie at first seems to be exactly what Monroe first perceives her as, an uppity sorority princess. As we get to know Natalie it's pretty clear that she has tried to mould herself into a pleasant, no-drama, people pleaser and that is definitely not who she really is. She hides her fiery temper and wild side to try and distance herself from her background but this sassy adventurous side of Natalie is infinitely more appealing.
Monroe is much more than he appears. He had a bad boy, biker vibe going that he totally rocks, but he's also just incredibly sweet. He has goals and dreams he works towards achieving. He's fun and laidback, and offers to show Natalie a good time for her 21st but he's also totally respectful of her at the same time. Monroe is actually kinda perfect.
At first neither Monroe nor Natalie think the other is what they're looking for, but what starts as a single night of celebratory fun turns into much more.
I thought that this did an awesome job at fitting a steamy and fun romance into such a short length. It's perfectly paced and the romance is nicely developed for a novella. Honestly, my only complaint is that we didn't get more!
*I received a review copy for my honest opinion. Thank you!
About the Author
Roni wrote her first romance novel at age fifteen when she discovered writing about boys was way easier than actually talking to them. Since then, her flirting skills haven’t improved, but she likes to think her storytelling ability has. Though she’ll forever be a New Orleans girl at heart, she now lives in Dallas with her husband and son.
If she’s not working on her latest sexy story, you can find her reading, watching reality television, or indulging in her unhealthy addiction to rockstars, er, rock concerts. Yeah, that's it. She is the National Bestselling Author of The Loving on the Edge series from Berkley Heat.
