Review

Man, oh man. Alexa and Caine were never going to have an easy romance. Alexa's father ruined Caine's family, and his life, with one major act of cowardice. When Alexa learns of this, her illusion of the man her father is shattered and it leaves her riddled with guilt and insecurities. When she sees Caine at her work, she goes to him and tells him who she is (or rather who she's the daughter of)...and he gets her fired. Then decides to hire her as his PA. Let the drama commence...

Alexa was a really fun heroine in a lot of ways. She wants to show Caine that she's nothing like her father, and she bears his callousness with patience and determination. She's also pretty sassy and understands Caine better than he thinks, which is why I think she can bear so much of his attitude in the beginning. Unfortunately she does take hit after hit (not literally!) from Caine and I think she should have taken a final stand about his behaviour a lot sooner, rather than just waiting for him to change.

Caine is broody and a ruthless businessman who has created an empire from nothing. His past just makes him more determined, but he's cold and distant from most of the world. Caine's moodiness hides a lot of pain, and I am a sucker for a damaged, tortured hero. Even if he can act like a total ass on multiple occasions.

Sparks fly immediately between these two damaged souls and there's a mountain of obstacles that the two must surpass in order to find happiness together. It's totally worth the rocky journey though, and I was just so freaking happy that Alexa's patience held out and she could reach Caine's heart.
The last few chapters of this book had me on tenterhooks and there was some suspense and plenty of surprises to keep me enthralled. It kept me reading far too late into the night because I just had to finish this tempestuous and passion-filled romance!

*I received a review copy from the publisher, for my honest opinion. Thank you!
