Forged in Dreams and Magick
Author: Kat Bastion
Release date: 23 September 2013
Isobel MacInnes wakes up in present-day California, lunches in medieval Scotland, and by ten days’ end, falls in love with a man and his country, only to lose them in a heart-wrenching twist of fate . . .
Found in the arms of her second soul mate . . .
Forced to balance the delicate strands of time between two millennia . . .
Shocked by revelations rewriting the very foundations of history . . . of everything.
Isobel, a rising-star archaeology student, is dropped into two ancient worlds without warning . . . or her permission. Her fiery spirit resists the dependency thrust upon her. Amid frustration at her lack of control, she helplessly falls in love. Twice.
She struggles to adjust to the unimaginable demands of two leaders of men—a laird in the thirteenth-century Highlands and a Pict chieftain in a more ancient Scotland. Isobel transforms from an academic, hell-bent on obtaining archaeological recognition, to a woman striving to care for those she loves, and ultimately . . . into a fearless warrior risking everything to protect them.
I love time travel romances, and Kat Bastion has definitely delivered with Forged in Dreams and Magick!
Isobel is a pretty kick-ass heroine, despite being sent back in time on numerous occasions. She is independent and has a fiery spirit, something which serves her well when thrown back to 13th century Scotland. She's extremely likable and I was rooting for her from the beginning.
Iain, *sigh*, I loved Iain. He's strong, fierce and protective. And a highlander laird. Really, what else do you need to know! He's the best type of alpha male, and had me swooning all over the place.
Then we also have Velloc. Yes, lucky Isobel has two soul mates. Velloc is also strong, and is a Pict chieftain. I really enjoyed Velloc and Isobel's relationship, especially the way he taught her to connect with nature and the world around them.
This time travel love triangle is handled very delicately, and it never feels too much like a love triangle. Although I was definitely team Iain!
I was instantly drawn into this story. The author had clearly done her research, and it helped to bring the history to life. And it was so interesting to see the past through Isobel's eyes, as an archaeologist. Kat Bastion has such a great way with descriptions, and it felt very poetic in places which suits the magical elements of the story.
This book has everything- romance, magic, mystery and some very steamy scenes. I really enjoyed Kat Bastion's writing style and I'm looking forward to reading more in this series! Now to find myself a magical box that throws me back in time to a hunky highlander...
*I received a review copy from the author, for my honest review. Thank you!
