Any Duchess Will Do
Author: Tessa Dare
Publish Date: 28 May 2013
Today Pauline is just a serving girl in Spindle Cove but tomorrow... she'll be a Duchess?! It's a Spindle Cove Pygmalion story as only New York Times Bestselling author Tessa Dare can tell it.
What's a duke to do, when the girl who's perfectly wrong becomes the woman he can't live without?
Griffin York, the Duke of Halford, has no desire to wed this season-or any season-but his diabolical mother abducts him to "Spinster Cove" and insists he select a bride from the ladies in residence. Griff decides to teach her a lesson that will end the marriage debate forever. He chooses the serving girl.
Overworked and struggling, Pauline Simms doesn't dream about dukes. All she wants is to hang up her barmaid apron and open a bookshop. That dream becomes a possibility when an arrogant, sinfully attractive duke offers her a small fortune for a week's employment. Her duties are simple: submit to his mother's "duchess training"… and fail miserably.
But in London, Pauline isn't a miserable failure. She's a brave, quick-witted, beguiling failure-a woman who ignites Griff's desire and soothes the darkness in his soul. Keeping Pauline by his side won't be easy. Even if Society could accept a serving girl duchess-can a roguish duke convince a serving girl to trust him with her heart?
Pauline was a brilliant heroine. She's a barmaid, and just happens to be in the right place at the right time. Pauline has always had to work hard to get anything from life, and has dreams for the future- including opening a circulating library. I loved how she put her sister first, and would do anything for her, it showed what a loving person Pauline is. I also loved how open and honest she is.
Another tortured hero for me, yay! Griff has a secret and strong pain that he keeps buried deep, but Pauline manages to remind him about love and soothes his pain. He's arrogant and high-handed on one hand, but also incredibly sexy and charming, swoon!
Griff and Pauline are the perfect combination, and I thought the ending was awesome. It could have been resolved in a slightly unrealistic way- but this was ideal!
The chemistry between the two of them was sizzling and intense, I loved it. They have some really great interactions.
I loved Griff's mother, she just wants her son to be happy and to have grandchildren. She's very determined- the book starts with her drugging and kidnapping her own son! It's very easy to sympathise with her, and some of her schemes were so funny.
This book was passionate and fun. I loved the humour throughout, but it also sent me on an emotional rollercoaster. I can't wait to read more from this author, starting with the previous Spindle Cove books I think!
*I received a review copy of this book from the publisher, via Edelweiss, for my honest review.
Beauty and the Blacksmith
Author: Tessa Dare
Publish Date: 30 April 2013
Take a trip to Spindle Cove in New York Times bestselling author Tessa Dare’s gorgeous and sexy Regency romance.
Beautiful and elegant, Miss Diana Highwood is destined to marry a wealthy, well-placed nobleman. At least that’s what her mother has loudly declared to everyone in Spindle Cove.
But Diana’s not excited by dukes and lords. The only man who makes her heart pound is the village blacksmith, Aaron Dawes. By birth and fortune, they couldn’t be more wrong for each other ... but during stolen, steamy moments in the smithy, his strong hands feel so right.
Is their love forged strong enough to last, or are they just playing with fire?
I love, love, loved this! I often find novellas to be a bit hit and miss, but this is definitely a hit.
There were so many elements that made this such a great short read. I loved the humour throughout the book, there were parts that were laugh out loud hilarious!
I really enjoyed having a non-conventional hero. It's not often that you get to read about a hero who is a blacksmith, but Aaron was a wonderful hero. He's yearned for Diana from afar, but has never acted on it- after all, she's so far out of his reach. But he's so passionate, and he's kind, protective and strong. Pretty perfect actually!
Diana makes for a very likable heroine as well. She's always struggled with bad asthma, and comes to the realisation that she should grab life and make the most of it. She has also, desired Aaron from a distance. I loved that she was so willing to try and prove she could be a good wife and partner for Aaron- I loved the scene where she tries to cook! Diana is very sweet, and I love how much she comes into her own. She also has a great relationship with her brilliant sister, Charlotte- I can only hope she has a book of her own soon!
This will send your emotions all over the place- from crying with laughter to just plain sobbing, a very impressive feat for a novella! I couldn't recommend this enough.
